Beneath the Barbican Estate and Barber-Surgeons’ Gardens lies the 1000-year-old medieval Jewish cemetery of London. Long overlooked and forgotten it is a poignant reminder and relic of London’s first Jewish community.

The objective of the Jewish Square Mile Project is to mark the cemetery and to celebrate the rich Jewish history of the City of London. Through exhibitions and education, we will bring to life the people that shaped historic London, and their contribution to the city and nation, pre-expulsion and post return four centuries later.
